Dear Mr Masaru TSUJI
It's with growing anger and frustration that I follow the news pouring in from Taiji bay. I'm sure you're well aware of the situation at present. The driving force behind this letter is to raise awareness and speak out condemning the slaughter of hundreds of dolphins. The hunt involves corralling scores of dolphins into a cove to select the prettiest for sale to aquariums and butcher the rest for meat. Babies and mothers are torn from each other’s sides, family bonds that span generations lay broken and shattered. Dolphins are very intelligent and social creatures, who feel and understand the loss of life inflicted upon them.
It saddens me to see the depths to wich humankind is willing to sink for monetary profit. The total disregard for life is shocking, as even a very rare albino dolphin's intrinsic value is reduced and seen only as a huge profit margin. As the world speaks out against this atrocity, I feel I must also make my own thoughts and feelings known. As a people we cannot and should not stand for this horrendous treatment of living beings. I know I speak for the vast majority of the Dutch public when I say this practice must be stopped and the selling of these dolphins as a commodity made forbidden. Companies who buy these dolphins should be made known, so the public can make up their own minds if they want to contribute or not. I cannot imagine that the Japanese public is insensitive to the global sentiment concerning this matter. I also cannot imagine they want to be seen in this negative way and be hated by the citizens of the world.
So with this letter I implore you, I beg of you to take this sentiment seriously and do everything in your power to help the good cause and prevent this from happing ever again.
